CD-ROM Care and Handling

Bulletin: 001 December 1996

To maintain the integrity of the disc and the data stored on the disc, please use the following care and handling guidelines:
Handle the disc only by the outer edge to prevent fingerprints and smears on the disc surface. Never touch the silver read surface (unlabeled side) or place it face down on a hard surface.
Store the disc in the protective jewel case or other packaging that was supplied with the disc when not in use. Proper storage will help protect the data from damage due to scratches on the disc surface.
Do not leave the disc in direct sunlight or in a hot, humid environment. These conditions may warp and damage the disc.
Store Imation CD-ROM media within this Temperature / Humidity* range: -20 degrees C to +50 degrees C, 5% RH to 90% RH (*Maximum wet bulb = 29 degrees C). Do not allow moisture to condense on the disc.
Use a soft, lint-free cloth for cleaning the disc. To remove fingerprints, dust, or spots; always wipe the disc in a straight line from the center hole to the outer edge. Never wipe the disc in a circular motion.
Do not use abrasive or solvent cleaners or conventional vinyl record cleaning solution to clean the disc. Chemical-based cleaners can damage the disc.
Do not apply adhesive labels to the disc.
The adhesive layer may react with the disc and cause damage. Also, removal of an adhesive label may damage the information layer of the disc.
